Let's talk about design & sustainability!
You may already now the 5R (reduce, reuse, recover, repurpose & recycle) for a circular economy? One of the most powerful tool beyond them is the reduction at the source. The best waste is the one we didn't produce. Danone in collaboration with Amcor created a label free bottle for Argentina.
Why is this interesting?
Labels are made with a different material from the bottle. It uses more material to communicate and it is not recyclable (only PE is recyclable in France and most of the countries as a film). There is a great work done here on the design and blowing mould to make the decor and text readable and visible in the shops. The final result helps to reduce the bottle's impact on the planet but not on consumers! It brings a really premium finish that enhance the quality of the product in the shelves!
For what product?
Let's be honnest. This interesting approach would make more sense on another product than water wich is available in most of houses. Where drinkable water is not available, bigger flexible container would make more sense on a sustainability and pragmatic point of view. But this kind of design can be significant for sodas or on the go drinks and remains a good inspiration for other brands and packaging designers as it's already a step froward that doesn't impact much existing production lines.
